For where your treasure is,
there your heart will be also.

- Matthew 6:21

Why we give.

Giving is more than just donating money.
- It is a response as a believer to trust with what God has given us,
not out of guilt, but out of faith.
 - As Christ followers we are commanded to generously give back to the Lord what He has already given us.
- Tithing is not for God’s benefit, He doesn’t need our money, rather it is for our benefit, to rely on God to meet all of our needs!

1 Corinthians 9:7 says “Each one should give what he has decided in his heart to give,
not reluctantly or under pressure.”

Not only are we supposed to give out of faith, but to give generously.

2 Corinthians 8:3-4 says “They gave as much as they were able and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us
for the privilege of sharing in this service.”

Tithing began in the Old Testament as Levitical Law to give back to the Lord. It was a Law that had to be kept in order to remain Holy.

Leviticus 27:30-32 says "One-tenth of the produce of the land, whether grain from the fields or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord and must be set apart to him as holy. If you want to buy back the Lord’s tenth of the grain or fruit, you must pay its value, plus 20 percent. Count off every tenth animal from your herds and flocks and set them apart for the Lord as holy."

- Tithing was often more than 10% of what was earned
- We see in the New Testament Jesus affirms tithing today in the New Covenant (Matthew 23:23)
- Since Jesus upheld Tithe we are called to as well!

2 Corinthians 9:7-8 says "Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work."
- The Lord loves a cheerful giver so give out of the abundance of your heart.

Tithe is different than an offering!
- Tithe is a specific amount (on average 10% of your income) that you give on an annual basis
- Offering is anything extra given beyond that

When giving, ask the Lord "How much of what you've given me, can I keep?" and give with nothing but a joyous heart!
